How-to

Connect your domain's DNS

Add the MX, A and TXT records Kubana shows you, verify them and activate the domain.

Before email can flow, your domain needs DNS records that send mail to Kubana and prove that your messages are genuine. Kubana shows you the exact records to add.

1. Open the DNS records

Open Webmail, then Manage on a domain with the status Configure DNS. The page lists up to six records:

Type What it does
MX Delivers incoming mail to Kubana
A (mail) The mail server address
A (webmail) The webmail address, webmail.yourdomain.com
TXT (SPF) Lists the servers allowed to send mail for your domain
TXT (DKIM) Signs your outgoing mail so receivers can trust it
TXT (DMARC) Tells receivers what to do with mail that fails those checks

Each row has the name (host), value, priority (MX only) and TTL, with copy buttons.

2. Add the records

Add each record exactly as shown, where your domain's DNS is hosted:

  • On Kubana DNS: open DNS Management → Manage for the domain. See Manage DNS records.
  • Elsewhere: use your registrar's or DNS provider's DNS editor.

Using Cloudflare? Set the records to DNS only

Set the mail and webmail A records to DNS only (grey cloud), not proxied. Cloudflare's proxy doesn't carry mail traffic (SMTP, IMAP, POP3), and proxying webmail can cause SSL certificate errors.

3. Verify

Choose Verify DNS records. Each record is marked Active or Missing.

  • All active: you're ready to activate.
  • Some missing: check the name and value of those records, wait a little, and verify again. DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to spread.

Ask your AI assistant to check

With the Webmail MCP server connected, ask "Why isn't mail working on example.com yet? Check its DNS." It lists exactly which records are missing.

4. Activate

When every record is active, choose Activate domain. The domain becomes Active, and you can create mailboxes.
