Add and manage SSH keys

Create a key pair on your computer, add the public key to Kubana and use it on servers.

SSH keys let you sign in to your servers without a password. They are safer than passwords alone, and some operating system images require one.

1. Create a key pair on your computer

Skip this if you already have a key (for example ~/.ssh/id_ed25519.pub).

Mac or Linux, in Terminal:

ssh-keygen -t ed25519 -C "your_email@example.com"
cat ~/.ssh/id_ed25519.pub

Windows, in PowerShell:

ssh-keygen -t ed25519 -C "your_email@example.com"
Get-Content $env:USERPROFILE\.ssh\id_ed25519.pub

Press Enter to accept the default file location. The second command prints your public key, which starts with ssh-ed25519.

Only share the public key

Paste the contents of the .pub file only. Never paste or upload your private key (the file without .pub).

2. Add the key to Kubana

  1. Open VPS → Settings. You can also choose Add key while creating a server.
  2. Choose Add SSH key.
  3. Give it a name, like My Laptop, and paste the public key.

A new key can take a few seconds to become Available.

3. Use it

Tick the key when you create a server. Then connect from the computer that holds the private key.

Manage keys

On VPS → Settings you can search keys by name or fingerprint, rename them, or delete them.

Deleting a key

A deleted key is removed from all your cloud servers. Connections that use it may stop working, and you'll need another key or the root password to get back in.
